Evening. I decided to switch over to a new case for a recently built system. Everything went swimmingly during the switch. All parts were placed on a cardboard work area to prevent static build-up. I was grounded at all times. Ran all cables and connections perfectly as well as cleared the mother board from its mounting plate.

Something has gone wrong. At the initial boot-up, I got an error about USB overcharge shutting down in 15 seconds--or something like that. I quickly realized what I possibly did, shut off the system, and fixed an error. Going blind, I accidentally orientate one of the USB connections from the case incorrectly on the MB. After removing the case USB connection, I am unable to get the computer to reliably boot. Either it hangs at the BIOS, or won't switch on at all. If it does switch on, I cannot get it to switch off. Is it possible I have fried the MB/Case with this error? Am I overlooking anything? Thanks for your help in advance

Well, the first thing I'd do would be to reset the CMOS. There's usually a jumper for that. Then, restart the computer.

I'm sorry for your frustrating event. What a grind!

Pull the motherboard from the case and follow these troubleshooting instructions (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=12753) and let us know what happens.

Hi all. First, thanks for the responses. Here's an update. The computer boots as long as mouse/keyboard are in specific usb ports. As well, there is a CMOS error. I'll clear the CMOS on the board see if that helps.

Once the computer runs, I cannot get any peripheral to run from the lower usb ports. Is it possible that the initial error fried/overloaded the USB bus port? Any suggestions for the next step after clearing the CMOS? Thanks so much in advance.

A little update:

I reset the CMOS and installed a PCI expansion slot with 4 USB connections. After re-assembling everything and putting the case back, it would not power up. After 30+ minutes of troubleshooting, I discovered that the molex connection for the case fan was extremely loose (the actual pin came out). Fixed this, computer boots fine. I still get Checksum errors when i boot, but at least its running.

I am just going to do an Advanced RMA from Asus. Thanks for everyone's help in the matter!

Another quesiton...could the short from the initial error cause the PSU to fail? Thanks in advance.
