Just within the last hour, I noticed the little LAN activity indicator's dowload lights was constantly stuck on. Bringing up the properites panel, it shows a constant download of roughly 60 packets/second. It's not the fact that I may have a virus that worries me, its that my internet has capped bandwidth of 5GB a month. Now I usually spend about 13 hours on the internet each day so in a month this would add up to somehting scary. There are no new processes running and no system slowdown. I ran Hijackthis and AVG and found nothing. This makes me think it may be a program updating. I just wish it would show me what is using the internet:mad:

Well, it just stopped now, must've been a program downloading an update or something.

And that is one of the main reasons I use Zone Alarm Pro: it has outbound protection so even if a valid / legit program wants to update, I still have to give it permission. That also gives me time to due a System Restore point or backup.

Yup, another reason why I'll always use a 'proper' software firewall. Not, only for extra protection but to control and monitor 'net usage.

another way to check what is connected and where in windows xp is:
start->run->cmd (enter)
netstat -ab
Then you will see some connections with the word established next to them and after them the name of the application that initiated them.
