Power Supply for custom case

I am in the process of building a system in a custom case. My power supply will mount inside the case but I was thinking about removing the housing for the power supply and just mounting the PS PCB and components to the case to save room.

Is this a good idea or does the housing of the ps have a certain purpose that it is definitely required?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I think it should be okay since some other cases have their power supplies mounted on the bottom as well.

It's possible but I would wouldn't recommend it for these reasons:

1. High power electrical components would be exposed which is not only dangerous for you but the power supply itself.

2. The power supply case has it's own cooling, removing the case you would be removing cooling fans that it needs.

3. Opening the case will likely void any warranty.

4. You wouldn't be saving that much space.

The High power danger concerns me a little as well.
I will be providing cooling for the power supply, but if I find that the housing of my power is definitely needed for cooling then I will not remove it. I am not worried about the warranty because all of the parts that I am using are being pulled from unused systems and the warranties have expired. Since the case I am using was never intended to use to house computer components, I thought I had better built it with parts that I do not mind if they get damaged in this experiment.
