Norton's

Everyone says Norton's is a resource hog it's 45.0 mb but avasts is 61.0 mb. I've been using avasts and i used to have norton's so is avasts a bigger resource hog.

Do you feel that avast! is making your computer run slower now? What happens if you don't let it load up with Windows? Does your computer run better?

No it's not running slower it's about the same as norton's. Haven't tried not letting it load up on start up.

Both sound a little high... I'll have to check my secondary desktop to double check on Norton, but I vaguely remember it being about 23MB or less. My box with Avast is down right now waiting for a new PS, but I hope to be able to check it this weekend.

I'm running NIS 2008 and the Ultimate Troubleshooter says its pulling 13.84 mb, thats all three programs combined.

Bad choice of words, that's the three service's of NIS 2008, not programs.

in the control panel from the add and remove programs avasts is 61.58 mb now if I download the Norton's from sbc it's 45.0 mb. I just wanted to find out witch was the bigger resource hog now a days. I've had no trouble with either program but at the moment I'm using avast.

The size of the program is not important, unless you have storage space problems. It's the demand on system resources that you should be concerned about.I must be honest I am starting to find AVG a bit of a strain on resources and now all my machines and my laptop are set to scan manually, AVG's installed size is currently 45.45Mb.

ANY antivirus program is going to slow down your machine while scanning. AVG for some reason does seem to be pretty bad at this and it scan times are horribly slow. For this reason I scan once a week manually when the PC is not in use.
