Outlook XP will not retain password in Vista

Have a brand new PC with Vista and installed Office XP version. Everything works great, except Outlook will not retain my POP email password from one session to the next. Each time I open Outlook, it askls for my password again regardless of my checking the "remember password" box.

I have Googled this and searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base. A solution is easily found for Win XP. It's got something to do with the "Protected Storage System Provider" key in the registry and they provide a fix using regedit (for XP).

Obviously the fix for Vista has got to be something a little different, but I haven't found one yet.

Wouldn;t hurt to try-> Delete the account information - reboot - add account information back.

Actually...I have since discovered I'm screwed. It's a known problem with no known solution, and none coming. It sucks.
