Hi

When I unzip files using the inbuilt unzip program it takes a ridiculous amount of time. At the moment I'm unzipping a 206MB file and it's taken 30 minutes or so, so far. This is the norm, and the files I've tried come from different sources. My old desktop running XP would do this in a few seconds.

Is this common? Any ideas appreciated.

PC is a Fujitsu Siemens laptop, Intel T2080 @ 1.73 GHz and 2GB RAM. Loads of hard drive space left, it's a new PC, and Visat is up to date.

Cheers
Neal

I don't know if it's common but I/O problems with large files(eg extremely slow file transfers) on vista are often reported by users. The upcoming service pack 1 due out this spring is suppose to address these problems, among other things.
In the mean time you can try a different zipping utility and see if the problem persists.

Thanks
I tried 7-zip, that did the same file in 35 seconds. I had a look on the microsoft site, first item on the productivity improvements for the service pack is for resolving copying and extraction speed.
