Confused

New build installed Vista 64 Bit with 4G RAM. Get BSOD's on boot. Works fine with 2G. Searched Microsoft and tried to install KB929777 but was prompted that I didn't need it and installed finished without applying.
Any ideas?

Check the memory with memtest. http://www.memtest.org/
What Mother board, processor, and memory are you using?

Asus M2N-E AM2
AMD 64-2 6000+ Windsor Socket AM2 Dual core
G-Skill DDR 800 (2 Sets of 1G each stick for total of 4G)
Like I said this thing is stable as a rock with either pair for a total of 2G but when increased to 4G it wont boot. Get a BSOD. Next time I try with all 4 sticks I will get the error msg.
Thanks Chas

Try setting the the memory to 667 when using all 4 sticks.
I had the same problem a while ago, and that seemed to help.

Resolved.
My original error was 0x0000007E which pointed me to Microsoft fix KB929777. I downloaded and attempted to install but got a msg. that it didn't apply to my PC and didn't install.
Later I got a error 0x0000000A and this pointed me to Microsoft fix for RAM that exceeded 3G. Oddly enough it was KB929777 but there were two versions listed there. One for 32 bit and the other for 64 bit. I downloaded the 64 bit and installed it without a problem.
Have powered off and on numerous times testing since without any problems.
