My Windows Vista Ultimate is just too slow. How do I back up my mails downloaded with Windows Mail in order to re-format my notebook and downgrade to Windows XP OS and retain my mails and other important data.

To backup, you just copy all the files out of the mail storage folder.

BUT, I don't think anyone has found a way to get Outlook Express to use the mail...You can probably get Office OUTLOOK to use them.
