Outlook appointments freeze action

Hi,
Recently I have been experiencing a sytsem slowdown when I create or move appointments in my Outlook 2007 Calendar. I see a freeze of 5 to 15 seconds. CPU usage goes over 80% during the freeze.
3.4Gb Intel CPU, 1Gb Ram, Shuttle XPC
Any suggestions for troubleshooting this annoying problem would be appreciated.

Archive your old mail, empty your deleted items folder, then compact the .pst file.

Thanks, I didn't realize how big the junk stuff had gotten.
