if i were to buy something from an online store like academicsuperstore.com and then re-sell it for more than i paid, would that be illegal?

Depends. If you buy software that is only available at a discount because you qualify as a student and then resell it to someone who does not qualify, that would be a violation of the EULA. Otherwise, buying low and selling high is just a good way to make money. ;)

It's like books: you're expected to use them for their intended purpose, but if you drop the class (or school) or the like, I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for doing whatever they want with them. But, as PR mentions, it's best to rest the fine print.

If you bought it with the sole intention of selling it and making a profit, there's the potential for some unhappy people. If you're selling it because you don't want it or can't use it anymore, it's fine for the most part.
I don't believe you are allowed to resell academic license software.
