Hello Guys,
Do you really need a third-party burning software in Vista Ultimate to make DVD or copy one ? What are the limitations for the built-in one?
Thierry?

Hi Thierry
Here's a somewhat dated article that talks about Vista's versions of Windows Movie Maker and Vista's new "DVD-Maker" (Vista was still in beta when the article came out, and I'm on a Linux machine at the moment, so I can't check if the Vista tool was renamed in the final release). At any rate, here's the link --- http://apcmag.com/3800/vista_gets_dvd_movie_burning
Ah - here we go, here's a more recent blurb about DVD Maker from Microsoft --- http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/dvdmaker.mspx
Since you can make the DVD in Windows Movie Maker, and then import it into DVD-Maker for burning, here's their article for Movie-Maker --- http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/moviemaker.mspx
And a couple tutorials --- http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/
Vista's Windows Media Player also has some basic CD/DVD burning capabilities --- http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/30ffa641-b682-4315-8c7e-8a29f383a7131033.mspx
Best of luck

If you are referring to backing up commercial DVD's that you own....then I would suggest a third party software. Vista can't remove encryption or compress the data.
