Adding new RAM

I have an Intel D975XBX motherboard.I have checked the compatible RAM specs. I had 4 sticks of 512 DDR2 RAM installed but wanted to try and increase my on-line gaming speed any way I could. I purchased 2-1GB sticks of Crucial Ballistic 240 pin DDR2 667 PC2-5300 that I will install in the 2 slots of one channel. Will I degrade their speed by re-installing 2 sticks of the 512 [same specs but "OCZ economy line" ] in the other channel ? Will the 3 GB give me any other advantage ? Thanks

It would be best to only use the 1GB modules, as mixing different memory can cause instability. You would only see a slight improvement with 3GB over 2GB so just stick with the 1GB modules.

Agreed. Keep the old RAM around anyways though. Nothing beats spare parts for troubleshooting PC problems, and RAM is always handy to have around. You could probably get away with just keeping one stick, if you wanted to sell them anyways.

Disagree - I'd go for 3gb, test for stability. They will run at the speed and timings of the slowest pair.
