I plan to purchase a Core 2 Duo processor and discovered the Wolfdale E8400 with 6 meg cache is cheaper than a Conroe E6850 with a 4 meg cache by about 70 dollars. I want to use this on an Asus P5K-E motherboard. This will work with this board wont't it? :)

Why would the processor with the bigger cache cost less? Or is this just the way Intel structure their pricing?

The wolfdale is definatly the better proc. I have no idea why there is the price difference. The socket type matches the board you are using and I haven't heard of any compatibility issues.

ASUS has CPU Support charts for all their current motherboards. Why would the processor with the bigger cache cost less? Or is this just the way Intel structure their pricing? They want to get the new CPUs out there and the best way is to make it's pricing very attractive to potential buyers.
