Attachment size

Hi Gang

I tried sending a buddy of mine a file, its size is 30.9MB now it errored and said my attachment size limit is 20MB, so I could not send it to him. I know I can put it on a disc and do it that way. But I was wondering if there is some place you can change the limit of attachment size any where.?

I am using Yahoo mail, but I have access to Gmail and Outlook mail. I appreciate any help on this. I have not tried either of these yet thought I would ask first in case they don't work either.

That limit is set up by yahoo I believe.

Try using your isp email through outlook. That should work.

I believe that will have the same problem if his ISP is still AT&T, they use Yahoo mail. Gmail also has a 20mb limit.

If you and your buddy both have an IM program (AIM, MSN, Yahoo Messenger) you can do it that way if you are both online and logged in.

Thanx....I guess i can always ask them about it but they are so slow in getting back to you and usually it is a form letter.

Ok I will try the Outlook in case this happens again which it will. Some files are just big. I could always send the exe file I guess too.

I was recently pondering on the same subject. How to send a larger file bigger than the 20MB limitation offered by an ISP or in the case one doesn't have or care to have an IM program (AIM, MSN, Yahoo Messenger).

Some (most?) email services won't let you send an .EXE file anyway, no matter what the size because it views them as possible virus files. I know I tried it with Gmail one time and it denied it. Best option would probably be what glc mentioned; store it online and give him the download link.

Although not an email service, MailBigFile.com, allowed me to upload a 38Mb Setup.exe file to it and a friend was able to retrieve it with no problems. I suppose they could be considered a "free online file storage".

Pretty much, yeah. In their "How it works" section it says:

1. Sender uploads the file.
2. Recipient receives an email, with a link to download it.
3. Recipient downloads file.

So yeah, they're basically just storing the file for you until it gets downloaded by whoever you're sending it too. Apparently they don't worry about having to keep things like virus and spam blockers up and going to protect their users the way most email programs do. Sort of a "use at your own risk" type of thing, but definitely handy for large file transfers.
