XP PRO fire wall

Hello people ....Has any one encountered XP PRO fire wall turning on by itself

Once and it was after a Widows update.
The guy was using a firewall program, I think it was Black Ice but I'm not sure, that had already been disabled by malware though he didn't know it at the time.
