good non gaming card

I'm looking to get a new video card, a PCI x16. I'm really confused as to what to get so I thought someone could make some suggestions. I do no gaming. It needs to be for photo and video editing and for watching movies and something that could serve as a tv tuner also, although not mandatory. Are the Nvidia 8600GT or GTS overkill for what I need?

Yes I would say that those cards are overkill for what you need. Some one more experienced may chime in with better info, the only thing I really know anything about is gaming.
But for what you are looking for you would probably be more satified with a mobo with integrated graphics and a tv tuner card. The only video cards with tv tuners built into them I have heard of are the old All in wonder series cards but I know nothing more than that about them.

Since you don't game I'd recommend the Radeon 2400.

That would give you HDCP so you can use hi-def, should you chose to, and it's a a good home theater PC card so if you decide to get a TV Tuner card you'll have no problem with it ( All-In-Wonder cards aren't being made any more and nVidia doesn't have one either. ).

It will do a better video editing job then on board and it's inexpensive.

The Radeon 2400Pro is a better for your needs than a Radeon 2400XT because you only need it for non-gaming purposes, in which case the additional speed of a 2400XT is unnecessary. The MSI GeForce 8400 is what I have, and it has more than enough power for me.

The HD2400Pro is better for video and is about the same price as 7300GS, if cost is really an issue, then the X1300 is an even better choice since it sells for half the price of a 7300GS and is faster and has better video decoding, here's a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102721

Thanks for all the input. I thought about getting a mobo with onboard video like the 690G chip but I really want to go with an Intel build and can't find what Intel boards and chip come with it. I probably will go with the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and check out one of the cards suggested by you guys.
