I've put together a computer using parts that were sitting around the house. It boots fine, but when I'm installing Windows XP, it just crashes and restart, then repeat the process. What could be the problem?

Specs:
ECS Elitegroup PT890T-A Mobo
Intel C2D e4600 CPU
Thermaltake 500W PSU
Maxtor 300Gb 1.5Gb/s SATA HDD
ATI Video Card (low-end)
Phillips DVD Burner
LG DVD ROM

This has happened to me before, came down to two components:

Motherboard was bad, i.e. memory controller
RAM is bad

Run Memtest86 to test your RAM and see if it errors. If it does you have one of the above two problems. If not, I'd try to readjust your cabling to make sure everything has a good connection.

I ran memtest and no errors. Readjust my cabling as in making sure everything is plugged in tight?

Have you checked that the heatsink is on completely?

Are you sure your hard disk is ok? Try formating the bootable partition

Yeah, I took the heatsink off and put it back on, making sure that it's on correctly.

I'm not sure, but this problem occurs after the HDD is already formatted during Windows installation.

No matter though, I already purchased new RAM, HDD, Mobo, and Video Card. Let's see how that goes.
