Hello, I just registered and need some advice.

My sata hard drive just died. I have ordered a new one, but for now what I am wanting to try to recover some of my data on bad hdd.
My dell only has ribbon cables, I was hoping to install the bad hdd as second on this computer. Is there anyway I can do that, by using some kind of controller or would my motherboard not support sata, since it only came with ide?

Thanks for any assistance..
Pat

You can buy a stand alone SATA controller card. Keep in mind that if the drive physically died then data recovery will be difficult and most likely impossible. If it's just a file system crash you should be able with the right software.

Thanks for the link, I am going to order that.

I am not sure about the hdd, pc wont boot, so I havent tested the hdd yet. I am hoping I can save some of the data. I was able to recover some data on another hdd that died, by installing as second hdd. If this one wasnt a sata, I would know for sure. :)

Thanks to both of you for the help.
