View Full Version : Firefox does not copy and paste

Hi, thanks for reading.
I've been using Firefox for a little over a year now, and really like it, most of the time. There are a few days when I'm unable to copy or paste text in the browser, and days when the ' button (apostrophe) makes my cursor move all the way to the bottom of the browser, and opens some strange new option.
If I go to Tools / Options, and then hit Cancel or OK, then everything works like it should, or at least like I "think" it should anyway.
Is there way to somehow set the browser so these strange features will not return the next time I reboot?
Thanks in advance for all the help.
Mark.

Hmmm. Interesting. Never heard of that one before. If you not running 2.0.0.12, I'd install it to see if that fixes the problem. I'd also run an AV scan and malware scan. Is anything else acting weird?

I have version 2.0.012.
Last month my sounds were not working when I started or shut down, then after a few days, they started working again. I would consider that weird.
Also, I noticed my TV Tuner no longer seems to be connected or programed correctly. Never bothered to check it out yet, haven't been using it that often anyway.

Side note - Can't edit last post.
When I hit the ' (apostrophe), the little box is the Quick Find.
I have no idea how to open it, unless it happens by mistake.
Maybe someone else does, and they can tell me how to disable this shortcut.

Sounds like you got some nasty creatures on board Marke. You should follow TwoRails advice and run an AV scan along with an adaware one for good measure. The behavior of your browser is in no way within normal param's.
If you didn't already know, good free progs are AVG Anti Virus Free Edition (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/) and Spybot Search & Destroy. (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)
Don't be tempted to buy 'better' versions at a price. These free tools are more than adequate, in fact they're very good.

Hmm....
Had a few Double Click, WhenUSave, and something from Daemon Tools.
Strange  Not sure how those got there.
Maybe the kids were doing something while I was at work.
Could those things come from Miniclip, or the silly games they play? There's some stuff from MSN Zone that they play also.

They come from everywhere. (sounds like a sci fi film from the 50's!!) Porn sites are the worst but gaming sites are a source too.
Have you got a firewall to help prevent these little bug(gers) getting in? If you haven't, another very good freebie is Zone Alarm Free. (http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/trial_zaFamily/trial_zaFamily.jsp;jsessionid=HYIooWDwrM6XCBWy8P5VHxL9P0BgcMNaV3YEjomcFdKREk4XmWFU!260751617!-1062696903!7551!7552!NONE?lid=2home_freedownloads[/url)
It'll take a wee while to get it set up and running how you want it to, but it's well worth it.

Funny thing is ...
I've got ZoneAlarm and AVG running. Always have.
Don't use Spybot on a regular basis, used it in the past, along with Ad-Aware SE, and occasionally hi jack this.

What's your set up?
Can you copy & paste it from 'Help > about Firefox' please. It may be Bon Echo if you're running FF2.

Ah HA!! http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2006/11/t...uick-find-bar/
Tweaking the Quick Find bar
Removal fix in four steps:
1. Type about:config into the Firefox address bar and hit the Enter key (or press the “Go” button). This will take you to a special advanced configuration screen.
2. Your cursor should already be blinking happily in the “Filter” text box. If not, click in that text box and type “typeahead” to narrow the options down to only those relating to the Find-As-You-Type feature.
3. Check the line that begins with accessibility.typeaheadfind.autostart. This controls whether the browser will start searching text on a web page as soon as you begin typing, without having to first invoke the “Find” dialog by pressing Control–F or typing a forward-slash. I had disabled this feature in the Firefox options, but for some reason this value was set to “true.”
4. If accessibility.typeaheadfind.autostart has a value of “true” on your machine and you’re experiencing the same bug I was, try double-clicking that row in the about:config interface. This will set it’s value to “false,” which solved the problem for me.
All done! Thank you John!
Side note: My feet must have kicked out the coax for my tv tuner, the cable was no longer connected, never did find out what was wrong with the sounds, as everything is still working. I had no idea what you meant with the Help> about, so I simply forgot until I was having other web browser problems after trying IE 8. :p
