Just looked at a local PC shop and noticed they had the 9800GX2. Then I saw the price tag, $1050. Thats $400 more than the 3870 X2. I think to anyone with half a brain would choose the 3870 X2 over the GX2. For some reason ATi cards are cheaper here than comparable nVidia cards, the 8800GT still sells for around $400 where the 3870 is about $320. So its not looking too good for the 9800. the 9600 however is looking quite good, about $290 for those.

EDIT: Oops, wrong forum, could this please be moved to General Discussion, thanks.

They are ripping you off, here is a link showing what they run here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143128

Less than $600, quite a difference.

I was about to say...the price difference is quite large, but the 3870 hits for less than 200 bucks now. 3870X2 should be around 450 at most.

Keep the difference between USD and NZD in perspective.

I don't think you can simply take into account the exchange rate between two countries and compare the price of the same product one to one. Likewise, I don't think it's just "import tax" - I think it's a good idea to think of a particular product's prices relative to what the other products are in the same unit currency.

I just think there is a very high markup on the 9800. I can get the 512MB 8800GT for $379: http://dragonpc.co.nz/p.aspx?104701
For that price it would be much better to SLi 2 of them than get a single 9800GX2.
At least I got my rig for a good price, $1200 from www.dragonpc.co.nz.

Hey man, we trying to keep it simple here :p you got me all confused now hehehe

better to SLi 2 of them than get a single 9800GX2 That is not correct, 2 8800Gts will never match a single 9800GX2, with 2 8800s you are only going to gain about 15-20GB/S increase in bandwidth, that will put you around 75Gb/s the GX2 is at 128GB/S.
SLI does not double the power, neither does Crossfire.

9600GT is the best for the money. Thought I'd put in a plug for that ;)

SLI does not double the power, neither does Crossfire.I was referring to price/performance, two G92 8800GT's would probably offer more performance per $ than a single 9800GX2, at least with the prices of the GX2 here.

Does anyone know of any benchmarking comparing two 8800GT512 or GTS's 512's in SLI vs one 9800GX2? Is it worth the dollars per frame rate?

Edit: I found a comparison. http://review.zdnet.com/graphics-cards/asus-en9800gx2/4505-8902_16-32902548.html
