I have a DViCO DVB-T plus digital TV card,with a SVHS plug,which I imagine I can plug my non Super VCR into.If that works can I make a .vob DVD from there? TV card records .tp in DViCO it an be converted to .mpeg

My tv tuner car records in any format even DVD format....it converts it after it records...

you can manually convert the format to DVD using software like ConvertXtoDvd...I use it and it works very well...

Hi. What TV card do you have? I was thinking of getting a different one, 'compro' & "Pinnacle' dual hybrid seem good but I like going straight to DVD. I've tried ConvertXtoDvd (trial version) it works well but as I've not a lot of money I was looking for a free one but...Thanks MaxRat.

If you just want to go straight to DVD without any editing why not just get a DVD recorder? They're super cheap now (entry level units are on the market for $150 and less) and you won't be dedicating CPU cycles to a very CPU intensive process.

I was hoping to be able to edit .vob s before I burnt them; thanks.

Editing actual VOB files is tedious - they need to be converted to a editable, lossless format and then converted back into DVD compliant MPEG2 (which I do not consider a proper editable source format) to be contained back into a VOB file.

With what you currently have - capture your S-VHS source as a lossless AVI and edit to your hearts content. Then I would use NeroVision4 to create the video - NeroVision4 does as good a job as any in creating DVDs and transcoding to MPEG2 DVD compliant VOB files.
