It seems that my good old COmpaq 19" CRT monitor has decided to die on me, leaving me with the prospect of fixing it, buying another 19" CRT monitor (second-hand) or just going ahead and buying a new 19" LCD monitor.

Nonetheless I've always been reluctant to buy a LCD monitor, particularly since games don't look as nice in resolutions below the native resolution of the screen, or so I've heard. Does anyone have any idea about how bad this this can actually be? My worry is that I play mostly at 1024X768 but a 19" screen's native resolution is usually 1240x1024.

Another question is if DVI has any real advantage over RGB.

Thnks a lot.

If you are using the video card in your sig, you shouldn't have any problems playing most games at native. Non-widescreen are slow being overtaken by widescreen. I would recommend a 20" or 22" as they seem to be the most economically and the size is very nice. Btw, a 19" standard is 1280 x 1024 and a widescreen is 1440 x 900 while a 20" or 22" widescreen is 1680 x 1050. Once you go with a LCD you will have almost no reasons to go back to crt. Also, use DVI if you have it.

Thanks for the info. I decided to stay for a while longer on the CRT world and bought a mint-condition dell 19" CRT monitor for about a fifth of the cost on the cheapest new LCD monitor. I'm currently on a very tight budget since I just upgraded the video card (from an 8600GT) and I really wasn't expecting to have to spend additional money on a monitor so cost reduction was a must.

Thanks anyway for the info and I'll keep it in mind for any future upgrades.
