My build will not detect the SATA hard drive....and this is the 2nd one I received

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive OEM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288

The mobo is the P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

On startup it recognizes the DVDRW drive on SATA 6....The HDD is on SATA 5 and just cannot seem to pick it up....

I reset the CMOS, I am clueless at this point

Try putting the hard drive into sata port 1.

If that doesn't work, try switching the cables.

Changed the cords and the sata port....still getting message: "Detect Drives Done, No Any drive found." Actually used the cable that I know works from the DVDRW

Is the drive visible in bios?

no, all 6 sata slots say not detected.....only when i connect the DVDRW, does it find it....could this be ANOTHER dead HDD?

Another bit of interesting information...

I called ASUS support and the first question from the level 2 guy was: "Is it a seagate?"

He told me that the Intel P35 chipset has a difficult time recognizing the Seagate HDD...

So I guess it goes back to newegg and get that 640 WD HDD

Is that how you do it? LOL

But seriously, I have two seagate drives on the asus p5k board, and one seagate drive on another asus p5k board.

I think that tech might be a bit, how do i say, not well informed.
