Question: Video Card

I bought an Asus P5K Pro Mobo and a XFX GeForce 8600GT VC. I was reading the user Mobo manual tonight and discovered my board is ATI Crossfire ready. Now, I am wondering if my card is compitable. The VC box states it's NVDIA SLI ready.

Will this card conflict with my board? My board chipset is P35/ICH9R. :confused:

SLI is nVidia's multi-card technology, Crossfire is ATI's. The two aren't interchangable, so no, you'd need two ATI cards to run together on that Crossfire motherboard. The single nVidia card won't conflict with your board when running by itself, though.

Don't be too concerned with this, by the way. Using dual/multi video cards is really only worth it when you can afford the most expensive hardware, much less so with a mid-range card like the 8600s.

I just looked at my PS and it states. NVIDIA SLI support.
As I listed above, I have an Asus P5K Pro board (P35/ICH9R) which in the manual states its ATI Crossfire ready.

Will this PS conflict with my Mobo? In possible future dual VC configuration will this PS have to be changed?

I am considering sending both back to Newegg and getting both that support ATI, does this sound like a better option. Please help needed:eek:

No - a power supply that states SLI support will NOT have any problems with your motherboard or ATI video card. It's merely a selling point for those who are looking to run dual nVidia cards.

If you wanted to run dual video cards in the future, then the power supply MIGHT have to be changed - it depends on the power it puts out and the quality of the unit. Having said that, don't go returning stuff to Newegg just for 'ATI support', what you have at the moment will work fine together.
