Okay... so I've been posting here for a couple months about how I wanted to build an SLI machine because I could. Well, I built the machine two weeks ago (fantastic by the way) and went SLI today.

Crysis auto-detected to high settings both pre and post SLI. I was hoping it would auto detect to highest this time. A stress test in Half Life 2: Lost Coast ran 142fps pre SLI and 157fps post SLI. So I did indeed get about a 10% performance boost by that test... but that certainly wasn't worth twice the video card.

My final verdict... do SLI because you can... not because you should. My next build will divert the money from an SLI board and 2x cards into a single card that is the best I can possibly get. Hopefully this will help some folks deciding between the two.

On your next build just take out one of the video cards you have in sli and use it in the next one..

I will likely continue to recommend staying away from SLI because I don’t think it represents the best “Bang for the Buck” but I agree that one of the best reasons to build SLI is just because you “Want It”. After all, if it really makes you happy having an SLI set up then that is pretty important because you should enjoy your new build and not have regrets.

SLI has its place. From everything I have read it shines on very large high resolution monitors and it definitely makes the best even better. But for the average budget conscious consumer I just don’t believe the Cost / Performance ratio is the best.

But if you really want it then I agree you should get it. :)
