problem accessing certain website

I have been having problems logging into a certain site after i installed IE6. I never had problems logging into the site with IE5.5, but giving me big problems now. I had this problem before with the beta version of IE6 so i just switched back to IE5.5 and got logged into the site fine. I figured the problem would be fixed once the final release of IE6 came out, but still have same problem. Is there some setting i can change so i can log into this site? Its just some site that has you enter username and password so you can access your personal account. usually, once i enter the username and password i get logged in fine. but now im getting a 2nd dialog box popup after the initial login saying to login again. i do what it says, but won't let me in. any help would be nice. Thanks.

If you are installing Windows XP on a freshly formatted harddrive, be aware that Internet Explorer 6.0 does not support Java, the programming language that gives many Web sites flexibility and makes them interactive.

To converse with Java-enabled sites, you will have to go to the Microsoft Web site and download the Java plug-in.

If you install windows XP as an upgrade on a pc that already has Internet Explorer 5.0,IE 5.0's Java capabilities will be transferred to 6.0

im not running windows XP, i am running windows 98. do you know the site name where i can find this java thing you're talking about? thanks for the help.

The java plug in should be available at Microsoft web site.

will this solve the problem though? I am able to get into any other website that has me login with no problem. It also says on the microsoft website that if i needed java then it would ask for it when it's needed. I should also say that i can't find the plugin on microsoft.com. ill continue to look for it though.

Your problem maybe that the site you are trying to access is down,
If you are getting other sites with no problems I don't think that you need to download the plug in. I know if you upgrade to 6.0 with Windows XP and it is a clean install you will need to download the plug in.
But I do know if you used the upgrade to XP from windows98, ME or 2000 and you had IE 5.0 then it will be transferred. My conclusion is this 6.0 does not support Java so if you simply downloaded it you will have to download the Java plug-in from Microsoft.com

actually the site i know for a fact isn't down. called the people that run the site and said it is working fine. it has been down ONLY since ive had 6.0 installed. if i only could find the jave plugin i could try it out, even though i think that might not be the problem. thanks for the help though.

I agree that microsoft web site is a maze. I did manage to find an article about it but it was telling me something totally different.
It said it automatically puts your internet settings at medium and that it diables the cookies and that certain web sites do not enable 6.0 util they test it themselves.

It could also be a cookie problem. IE 6's default setting is to block cookies from third party people. So if the cookie the site was trying to lay on you was not it's own, IE could block it and prevent logon.

Don't worry about JAVA, doesn't apply to you. Only fresh install of XP and IE6. I think you are having same problem with cookies that I had after I installed IE6. My insurance provides for prescription medicine thru an online pharmacy for maintenance drugs, blood pressure for example. Thru the use of cookies I automatically log in when visting the site to place my order. After IE6 I couldn't place order because cookies weren't being accepted. I had to set up an override cookie handling for individual sites. Go to Tools, internet options, privacy, web sites /edit and put in the URL and click allow. For my particular site, I had to enter 3 URL's to get where I wanted to go.
