I have a backup drive that I am no longer able to access. The drive appears in "My Computer", when I click on it I get the option to format the drive. Information exists on the drive that I need to recover, any suggestions?
OS - WIN XP Pro
Failed Drive - Maxtor,80 GB

Search the site for "Data Recovery" and see the 8 million other threads. PC Inspector is one of the more common suggestions...

Which of the 8 million has a quality service without the extreme price. ONtrackdatarecovery's quote was $500-$2500.

Will this work given the fact that I am unable to access the drive?

yes it will access the drive (as it shows up in my computer) and will display any files not been overwritten, you can then recover them onto your main drive or somewhere else, dont install software on the backup drive (which i doubt you can anyway).

I will give this a try later, hope it works!
