Hi,

For the system in my signature, I was thinking of enabling AHCI under Vista Ultimate 32-Bit.

However, I have one doubt, which I thought I would run by you guys.

Of the 3 HDD's in the rig, the Samsung SP1213C (120GB) is a SATA-I device and the two Hitachi's (500GB-[HDP725050GLA360]and 160GB-[HDT722516DLA380]) are SATA-II. The Hitachi's both support NCQ, while the Samsung does not.

Now, my doubt is this:

Do you know whether the Samsung SP1213C will run with AHCI enabled, or will it disappear into the great blue yonder, never to be seen again?

TIA

NPP

I believe they will all run in ahci mode, but you will most likely have to do at a minimum a repair install of windows.

Others will probably be able to tell you better about the exact process.

I believe any SATA drive will work with AHCI enabled provided the proper drivers are installed. When you switch to AHCI in the bios you will get a blue screen when you boot Vista if you do not enable the proper driver beforehand, here is a link explaining how to do so. This should avoid the need for a repair install.
