Ok, well i went to reinstall XP pro with SP2. I formatted with the disk and put the install files on. Then let it boot to the hard drive for the install to work. But When the Windows XP splash screen shows up with the scrolling bar it goes over one then stops on the 2nd pass. Freezes at the same spot every time. I have no idea what im doing wrong. Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean by "put the install files on". Are you letting the install proceed from the XP disk?

Yeah i let the Cd do it all, just meant letting the CD put the install files on for install. But when it does that then says "Computer will reboot in 10 seconds" or something like that and i let it boot to the HDD, when the XP splash comes up it freezes on that. Did some searching on it and found this, http://cquirke.mvps.org/sp2intel.htm not sure how relevant it is but the CPU they are talking about is the one i have. But any other reasons know?

I doubt SP2 with a Prescott is an issue. That article was released several years ago when SP2 was just released. Are you using a true XP Pro disk with SP2, a Slipstreamed disk with SP2 added or simply a copied XP Pro disk?

Well it was my friend who gave it to me, was a copy of his old disk and the CD key with it. Gave it to me when he went to Vista. But i know my older XP disk without SP2 on it worked well...but soon as i put SP2 on that it froze the same way at reboot. So i got this with Sp2 made into the install. But it still freezes at the booth. I know before it was something about mup.sys being the last loaded.
Disconnect all peripherals except monitor, keyboard, and mouse - and remove all cards from the case except the video card - and disconnect all drives except the main hard drive and the optical you are using for the install. Once Windows is installed and updated, then you can start reconnecting things.

Will try it soon and will post results. Hope it works

Well i did all that but it still freezes at the same spot. So i decided i would try something on the CPU and service pack conflict. I went in my BIOS and disabled the LI and L2 caches...and slowly but surely it did boot in to install windows. So i guess it is that...but ive never flashed a BIOS before, due to the risk of it...nor do i have a floppy drive near.
