replace Gateway laptop hard drive

Hi.. a friend of mine asked me to take the old hard drive out of his dead Gateway Solo 9500 laptop, and recover the data for him with my external HD enclosure. Unlike my non-Gateway laptop, where the HD easily comes out of a separate compartment, this HD is under the battery. I found a site

that supposedly tells how to do this, but after I remove the battery I'm having no luck finding or removing the so-called case for the HD. Anyone familiar with this laptop, or have worked on it?

Hi.. found a second site ( http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,23186,00.asp ) that mentioned that in the same model, the HD is under the floppy, not under the battery. There it was.
