I've got a separate HD for backups, as well as old spare HDs that hold older stuff, like my install items from years ago, old scanned photos from my parents, etc. A friend had a similar system. He lost it all in a fire, so I know I too am not as safe as I thought. Large online storage site is probably what I need (at least 150 Gig). Seems to be lots out there. Anyone have experience with one that they'd like to share?
Thanks

I'd get a 250gig drive for $49 bucks - copy important files for backup and then carry the drive to another location like office/family members house.

To store 150 gigs on line could cost ya a bunch of money each month.

I agree. I use my office as my personal off-site backup. Free and easy.

Portable HD DOES make the most money sense, but since I am retired, I would need to drive 30 min. to nearest family member and then there is the issue of convenience with updating, etc. I suppose I could leave a portable in bank safety deposit box. Thanks for advice.

I was going to suggest a safe deposit box.

Depending upon the type of house you have, you may be safe just using an external drive a placing it in a fire-proof box/safe. I use one for important documents and stuff like that. I don’t see why you couldn’t put an external drive in one too.

And since most people (knock on wood) don't have house fires too often, moving the extra drive across the house would help in the event a fire does happen.
