this will be my second new build...first one is:
Asus p5w dh deluxe
dual core e6400
ati 1950 pro
vista home premium
500 watt psu

new build will be:
Asus p5k
dual core E8400
ati 3870 OC
500 watt psu

now, question is...can I just drop my old HDD into the new build and everything will be recognized? or should i just take the long way and start everything from scratch?

any help would be much appreciated...
thanks!

I would think a re-pair install would still be necessary. Generally, unless you are swaping out identical MBs, bias and all, you will need to do a new intall or re-pair install of windows to get it to recognize the new MB.

I agree with Kat however you are always much better off starting with a fresh install when replacing so much hardware.
