I have a choice to make and depending on your advice and suggestions, I'll choose the appropriate way to go.
I can reload everything as new, which means saving all of my photos, videos, and data to cd's and/or dvd's and adding them after installation. It also means reinstalling all of my programs, AVG, SP3, Office, and many, many others.
OR
I can use a "cloning" software which I have never done before. Would Acronis True Image in the trial version do this? How complicated is it to do? Is there a way to copy my existing drive to the new drive using XP or something else?
TIA
Kubie
Clone the drive using Seagate DiscWizard (assuming you bought a Seagate drive). It's a free download.

I bought the drive you recommended G. Its a Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm, 250gig, SATA drive, with 16mb cache.
Thanks G for the help!

Ah yes, the progression of technology!
I'll have to go down to Best Buy and see if I can buy another SATA cable as this drive does not have the option of IDE connection. Also have to see if they have a SATA power to molex 4-pin power adapter. Looked high and low for the cables that were extra when I built this pc but to no avail.

Got my connectors at Staples.
My question is is can I connect this drive to the other SATA port on the mobo? Since the only jumper is for 1.5gbs/3.0gbs and not master/slave, will I run into a problem or will it be sorted out?
TIA

Installed and cloned! Silence is great!
Thank you all!
Kubie
That's what's so great about SATA - no jumpers (except the 1.5/3.0) and no master/slave to worry about.

What is the 3.0 jumper setting? What is required to get the faster speeds?
TIA
Kubie
The setting is for backwards compatibility with some 1.5 controllers that won't recognize 3.0 drives. I think the only ones that are affected are Vias. Older Intels don't have a problem. Pull the jumper.

Jumper is pulled and I can tell a noticeable difference.
Thanks for the help G!
