I was setting up my brothers computer and encountered a problem with the monitor. When I plug it in it gives me a little message saying "Not Optimized Settings 1024 x 800" or something close to that. The computer turns on completely normally (from what I can tell since I can't actually see anything). I tried to change the screen resolution from my laptop but showed up on the monitor.
The monitor has worked before, however, the case and monitor haven't been used for several months.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You have to tell us the monitor you're working with and the specs for the rest of the computer.

It's a Samsung 19" monitor... As for the specs of the computer I don't know since it's my brother's computer and I can't see it's screen. Based off my memory though, I think it has a single pentium core (around 3.0 ghz), also I know it has a videocard but I don't know how big it is. There are also two hard drives... I'm not next to the computer right now since it's at my house so that's all I remember...

I'm guessing that it's wide screen so 1440x900, which means 1024x800 isn't native resolution.
It could be 1280x1024 but I'm still guessing.
Basically though the monitor is either out of range or not at native resolution.
Time to use safe mode for the load.
