Watts isn't really a good indication of anything ....

Watts don't indicate much but right now I have my main gaming PC in my home theater connected to my 1080p plasma and my sound system powered by a Yamaha RX-V2700 which is capable of pushing 140w RMS per channel. The real muscle, however, comes from my sub (http://s14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Hi_Ho/Rythmik%20Sub/). Crysis has some serious low frequency stuff going on. :D

The problem with focusing on the wattage rating of a system is that there are so many other variables. The efficiency of the speakers is one of them. More efficient speakers will play louder with the same amount of power. Many systems that claim "1000 watts!" may be able to provide that... for a fraction of a second. There is a big difference between RMS power and dynamic or "PMPO" power. RMS is the sustainable output while the dynamic power is sustainable for a very short time. The other factor is that not all channels are getting all of the rated power at the same time. While playing a game your speakers are probably pulling a fraction of the rated RMS power at any given time.

I'm using the EMU 1212M card. My speakers are also EMU PM5's. Each speaker has it's own amp built-in. I think each amp is 40 watts. They are plenty loud. Extremely high quality for audio mixing.

Logitech X-230 here, 32w RMS. That may not sound like much but these can really crank it. Sure beats my old "300" watt system.

If I remember right, my Klipsch 4.1's are rated at a total of 420

Watts aren't really as important as the efficiency of the drivers using the watts. I have some old Altec 500 Voice of the Theater Magnificents that will make your ears bleed with a good clean 35 watts and I have some old Cewin Vegas that won't resonate with less that 50W. :D
I rarely turn my PC speakers on but I believe the 3-piece Altecs I use are rated at 15 W & 25 on the sub. More than enough DB's loud for me.
