There are some computers in a Local Area Network that are connected to a router via switch.
The WAN interface of that router is connected to ISP modem via ethernet cable.
The users on the computers access internet through this router.

There was a problem with the router ,the users were not able to access internet. We checked the connectivity with the router by pinging its Public IP address on WAN interface but got messege of request time out. After restarting the router, when I pinged the router,
I was geting a reply successfully but sometimes it was giving me a messege of request time out.

I just wanted to know what could be the problem with the router? It shows that the connectivity of the router with the ISP Modem is not consistent but could it be an issue of power or voltage that the router is geting from the Power Supply?

I hope my question is clear

did you check the default gateway?

did you check the default gateway?

Which default gateway? the Private IP address of the routers interface that is defined in the default gateway of the client computers connected to it or the IP address of the ISP Modem that is defined in the default gateway of the routers WAN interface so that it could connect to the ISP Modem?

What I have generally seen is that when such problem occur in the WAN interface of the router, the users are still able to ping the default gateway.

I hope my question is clear

What type of routers is this, consumer grade (e.g. Linksys) or commercial (e.g. Cisco)? Have you tried accessing the router setup from the LAN side (not WAN side) to make sure all settings are correct?
