I am having trouble with a couple of things

Its not politically correct! (8,8)
( I have figured this one out)

Has something to do with the computer or computer parts

Heres another brain teaser

If 'b2=b' and 'b8=o' what does b16 equal?

glc

BO. Phew!

Kasturi
07-08-2008, 04:35 PM
That seems to be incorrect

blue60007

b16=h

Kasturi

That was correct blue.

Heres another one

(Mike wants to know how many days will it take until the next planetary alignment (one is happening now).)

Kryptonus, the nearest planet to the sun, takes 6 days to orbit the sun.
Zenona, the next planet, takes 23 days to orbit the sun.
Argonu, the middle planet, take 37 days.
Neoni, the largest planet, takes 68 days.
And Radon, the last planet, takes 137 days to orbit the sun.

I'm more worried about the fact that all of the planets get cute suffixes besides Radon.

Radon needs a suffix.

47,567,496 Days

23,783,748 days (half that) is the lowest I've found, didn't put too much more effort into it though.

that is correct vtfanmv5.

I came up with the same as Hal, how did you know to divide by half?

Tell us how you came up with that answer.

Heres another one....

In L??????? you will find the K??????s, the T???????s and the A????? F???????.
(What does the L stand for..?)

I multiplied them all (like you guys did, probably), and then said, "hey, lets divide this by two and see if it still works". When it did, I said "hey, lets do it again and see if it still works"...and it didn't. It's an extremely scientific process.

I thought of that afterwards and by the time I got a gap between calls, you had already posted.

Well I guess this scientific stuff isn't for me LOL

23,783,748 <- Least Common Multiple (used an online calculator ;))

LCM(m,n) = (m*n)/GCD(m,n)

We have 5 numbers, 6, 23, 37, 68, 137 which can be broken down into:

LCM(6,23) = 138 / 1 = 138
LCM(138, 37) = 5106 / 1 = 5106
LCM(5106, 68) = 347208 / 2 = 173604
LCM(173604, 137) = 23783748 / 1 = 23783748

so LCM(6,23,37,68,137) = 23,783,748

GCD calculation is pretty simple too :p

I'm still trying to figure out how you came up with "b16=h" for the first one! :D

beebop

yeah, i got the planet question but still dont get how u got b16=h for the other one. if u get get the chance could u explain it as i'd like to know the working.
thanks
bee :)

Not clear on how you get "h" either. Please explain. I was thinking that zero was the correct answer since zero times any number is still zero. If b = zero then the answer is still zero.

Kasturi
07-10-2008, 02:06 PM
b2 = b (binary)
b8=o (octal)
B16 = h (hexadecimal)

I see, your talking computer language and not algebra.

Kasturi
07-10-2008, 02:11 PM
yea,

that was a o not an 0

glc
07-10-2008, 02:23 PM
Well - my solution could also be considered correct.

b2 = b
b8 = o

b2 * b8 = b16
b * o = bo.............

Hmm I'm not really getting the PC one.

I saw the b2, b8, b16 and immediately thought of base 2, base 8, and base 16. Then I saw the first two matched up with their letters...
