I haven't used it for quite awhile now, but when I did, I wasn't real impressed. The games that I tried to run on it seemed to run really slow. I mean, I felt like I was trying to run them on my old 486 or something. They just sorta chugged along. Like I said, this was probably a year or more ago, so a newer version may work better....that's just my results from the version I was using.

I've used it before and it works really well. I've been able to play some of my favorite DOS shooter games (Stargunner, Tyrian, etc) where I couldn't without the magic of DOS box.

On most games though, you have to play with the number of cycles per second to find the sweet spot for the particular game. This controls the speeding up or slowing down of the game and is pretty easy to adjust (f11 and f12 I believe). Of course, the setting you use will depend on your machine hardware, but it doesn't take long to figure it out.

DOS Box Sux. My experience compares to Juppy's. No matter how much you emulate, Windows XP will NOT, under any circumstances, allow your app direct access to hardware resources, which DOS games need for sound. The result is crappy sound or no sound at all. The sluggishness also makes games unplayable; I tried to play Chronomaster and gave up after about 15 minutes. Come to think of it, maybe this is a solution for those games that play so fast you cannot actually play them, such as Battle Chess; but I ain't gonna try again. I'd rater wait to get another CRT monitor and set up my old rig as a Windows 98 box with true DOS on it.

It's awesome. I got to play Syndicate, and old favorite from the 1990's.

The one I used "way back when" was version 0.63. Looks like the newest one now is up to 0.72.

I used 0.63 as well (again, with no problems on about 5 early 90's games). It's been over a year since I used it.
