I am a beginner wanting to learn more about networking (WANs mostly). Can anyone suggest any helpful books that will be of use to me?

I think the OP wants to learn about Wide Area Networks (WAN), not Wireless Loca Area Networks (WLAN).

Well, even though looking on the internet for free pdfs of some great books is not hard, you could go to Cisco's website and find out more about this subject, they being the leaders in this market both for equipment and training programs and certifications. https://cisco.hosted.jivesoftware.com/index.jspa?ciscoHome=true?utm_source=blog+commenting&utm_medium=media&utm_content=Google&utm_campaign=International
