I heard vista Sucks. Help!!

well i ordered Vista home premium 64 Bit and it's coming tommorrow. After i install it what should i do? I heard it eats ram. and i heard it eats CPU power and whatever else... what can i do to make vista run OMGWTF BEST! ( sorry for the g33k talk. ) some people said turn off Sidebar. and thats the most i got out of answers.. help!!

Some folks just like to rant. Vista runs fine and there's plenty of sites offereing suggestions on tweaking for increased performance. I've used the Services suggestions from BlackViper.com on several Vista versions without any problems. The bigger concern for you is your choice of 64 bit. Fewer problems with 32 bit due to programs and driver compatibility. And the last guy I would listen to is some Yak on ScrewTube trying to gain fame.

Just turn off or do away with whatever you don't want or need.

Turning off sidebar and Aero could decrease RAM usage.

With 4GB you're not going to have problems though.

Every thread I see you make is about concerns with your build. Lol.

You should be more worried about 64 bit encryption more than anything as you may run into trouble with compatibility issues.

4 gb of ram is more than enough to handle vista with every visual setting on max. It'll only take 1.5 gb of ram at most... roughly.

Are you serious? All i want is games mostly. and to watch .avi's and .mkvs.. to use Divx player and... UTorrent to download my animes and junk. i dont see what else..

Using Vista 32bit Business right now using 645MB with only Firefox open. Like what someone else said in a similar thread, you paid for all this ram, why are you so scared to use it?

Unless you have 10 games opened simultaneously or dozens of windows open at a time, you are good. If you're so paranoid, you might as well get 8 gb of ram...

I just .. want vista to look nice. thats all.. get the most out of my games , any other movies i watch.. I just want to turn off useless stuff in vista.. things i wont use.. i guess ill check it for myself. 8 gigs huh.. I guess ill get that much. maybe in a week or 2.

so with 4 GB ram i can leave everything on by default? and have no reduced system performance like speed? and FPS lag

I think that a lot of people who call Vista a hog do so from the perspective of RAM usage as well.. which means that they are lagging behind the times. Pre-Vista OS' left RAM usage lower because they would never touch RAM that wasn't used. Vista has better predictive capabilities of programs and does preload some stuff onto the RAM in anticipation of use. It leads to a smoother performance profile than before. If you've paid for the RAM on your mobo .. isn't it better utilized in pre-loading stuff for programs you normally use than sitting idle. These are things I just don't get when I see sites that have screenshots of Free RAM on their pre-Vista OS' .. big whoop .. akin to driving your Porsche on 2nd all the time.

People way overdo the whole resource hog thing. I've seen Home Premium run fine on 1GB for basic home tasks and such. 2GB is enough for most people. Vista will use a lot of RAM due to what Statica explained, its called SuperFetch. It remembers your most used programs and what time you use them and pre loads its DLLs into RAM to make it load faster. It does lead to a smoother experience but for people with 1 or 2GB of RAM it can lead to problems with large programs like games, it sometimes causes stuttering as the data is swapped out of the memory. But it is easily turned off by a simple registry edit.

I recently did a new build and I did a dual boot between Windows XP Home and Vista Premium 64. The reason I did that is I heard horror stories on Vista 64 drivers, but that was unfounded for I rarely boot up in Windows XP and when I do, it's usually to print something out for I have an old printer that I know the manufacturer isn't going to develop a Vista driver for. I also have 4 GB of ram and Vista just seems to fly when opening programs and doing stuff on the computer where as XP seems slow to me now.

I have vista ultimate on my notebook , It only has 1G of ram. Runs just fine. However I run XP Pro on my main system. Some things just dont work. Hoping they fix in a few years....

Sheesh, I installed Vista Home Premium today rather than going back to XP. All I have is 500mb of ram. Could that be a problem lurking??

I believe the recommended ram for vista is 1 gb.
