Ok I very recently upgraded my brand computer. I succeeded in putting in 2gb of RAM, a 480w PSU and a PCI 256mb GeForce 6200 PNY graphics card.

When I tried to install Armed & Dangerous, I ran a system check and it said that I didn't have Direct x 9.0b installed and refused to play. However I ran dxdiag, and ran ALL the tests - I passed every single one. Moreover on the front page of dxdiag it said I have direct x 9.0c installed.

Here are the specs for Armed & Dangerous:

Pentium 3 1 GHz CPU, 256MB RAM, Windows 98+, 32 MB DirectX-compatible 3D accelerator, 4.5GB hard disk space

32 MB DirectX-compatible 3D accelerator? Only 32MB? I have 256MB so whats the problem?

And why is it that I'm sitting here playing DOOM3 AT ULTRA HIGH QUALITY and I cannot even play an older shitty game like Armed & Dangerous.

I even went lengths to try and reinstall Direct x, but the install detected that I already had it and cancelled install.

I don't want it to be a situation where I wasted my money for this card, as it's practically the only PCI card worth getting. And if it plays DOOM3 perfectly, hopefully it's just the game?

TY in advance for quick replies:D

Seems like an old game issue- it looks for 9.0b but cannot find it because you have 9.0c- and therefore thinks you have incompatible version.

This is a known issue and the workaround is to not use the game's launcher to start the game. This is from the Lucasarts website:
Q: I am being prompted to install DirectX 9.0b when I try to run Armed and Dangerous. I already have DirectX 9.0c installed!
A: If you already have the latest release version DirectX (9.0c) installed from http://www.microsoft.com/directx but the game continues to request that you update DirectX when you attempt to start the game, please try launching the game as follows:

Place the game CD in the drive and exit the launcher menu when it appears. Next, launch the game using the game.exe file on your harddrive. If you installed the game to the default location:

- Open My Computer
- Open the "C:" local drive
- Open the "Program Files" folder
- Open the "LucasArts" folder
- Open the "Armed and Dangerous" folder
- Open the "Gamedata" folder
- Double-click the "game.exe" file to start the game

You may want to right-click the game.exe file and choose Create Shortcut and then copy this new shortcut to your Windows desktop or Windows Start Menu for the game for easier access.

The thing is... In my annoyance I broke the Armed & Dangerous CD's....

Does the game require a CD to play? If it does, how are you playing. If it doesn't, I don't see the problem with using his perscribed fix.

Yes it needs a CD, however, you could use a no-cd patch (if this is an improper recommendation for this forum please let me know and/or delete it)

It's a "pale" gray area.
Using a No CD patch on a game you own is OK by me and game publishers have been known to recommend it as away of dealing with game problems that they can't or won't fix.

Well, since it's been semi-okayed (and really there's nothing wrong with it if you actually purchased the game), here's a link to the no-cd crack for Armed and Dangerous: http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/dl.php?file=ArmedAndDangerousv1.0NoCDFixedexeEng.rar
