Alright so I got 2 x 2GB DDR 667 RAM and I plugged it in but the mobo only recognizes one GB from each stick. I don't understand what the specs mean on the asus site and so I'm wondering if there is a limit to how much RAM this mobo can hold, and if that's 2 GB.

That board will accept 4 sticks of RAM up to 4GB total. Could you post the brand and specs of the RAM?
Have you tried using one stick of RAM at a time.....in different slots?

2 x DIMM, Max. 4 GB, DDR2 1066*/800/667 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture

It actually only has 2 RAM slots, not 4.

okay so I took one of the RAM out and now it only says 1 GB. I only have 2 RAM ports, I assume max 4GB means max 2GB per slot- what would you recommend doing to deal with this situation?

What is the exact ram you have?

Is it only saying 2bg in bios, or is that in windows?

You might want to run: www.memtest.org on it.

I always test in the bios first. The bios only reads 1 GB per stick. Do you still recommend getting that memtest cd?

My apologies. I looked on the Asus site for the Asus p5kpl and it says/shows it has 4 RAM slots.

I would still get the memtest cd and run it.

Either your memory is bad, or the slots on the mother board are bad.

If you have extra ram, try that in the motherboard and see what it shows. Or try that ram in another computer.

(I sort of think it would be the memory rather then the mb)

When I try to run memtest it says I can't run it if my computer is already in protected mode. I went to safe mode cmd prompt and it still says same thing.

memtest shouldn't be run from windows.

Did you download the .iso file? You need to burn that to a cd as an image.

Then you would restart your computer with teh cd in the drive. Make sure it's set to boot from the cd drive first.

How exactly do I burn an iso as an image? I've never done that before. Can it be done on MacBook?

I have no experience with a mac, but I assume it should be possible.

The P5KPL-CM has only 2 ram slots. It does support 2gb modules, but apparently the ones you have may not be compatible.

You were asked exactly what ram you purchased, please answer that.

Its 2GB PC2-5400 DDR2 (12) 667 MHZ 080731 on the sticker for the stick.

What brand is it? Where did you buy it? Was it sold with a compatibility guarantee?

It's Samsung, I got it from an eBay seller who specializes in memory but they were very friendly and said to email them if I have compatibility issues. If all else fails, I can resell these on eBay.

You need to email them. That's exactly what you are having.
