I'm finding that relatives and family members are somehow getting this malware installed on there computer. I read about it and hopefully removed it.

However, was there something that could of been installed to avoid this happening in the first place?

Unfortunately security programs cannot completely protect users from themselves.

I ended up using malware bytes

[Panama Red]

Malwarebytes gets most of it but follow up with scans with Spybot 1.6 and AVG. You may find a couple more entries.
