The part that I need to point out is this:

My advice, with any successful malware exploited PC, is to back up the data, format your drive, re-install your programs, fully patch, and begin all over again when you're exploited. Change your online passwords and PINs, monitor your credit, and begin your cyber life anew. Today's malware is criminally motivated and trying to steal all your money, one way or another.

This is what we call "nuke and pave".

Hard drives these days are SO cheap that everyone should have a large external drive for keeping backups!

Good article. Scary to think how easy it has become to dupe people as they innocently search the web.

OMG .. guys help me here please !
2 days ago .. I was looking for some free 3D models on the net .. just normal thing .. till I clicked a link .. which kept directing me to another links .. till a pop-up window showed up telling me to install that program "XP Anti-Virus 2008" .. Im not new to such crap .. so I just clicked cancel and closed the FireFox and ended my search ..

how ever , at that moment of time .. my anti-virus was disabled - and still disabled - , so is there any chances that my pc got infected ??
Im running a scan now .. by the KasperSky Internet Security 6 and the Ad-aware 2008 .. is there anything I should do too ? my Internet is sucked up badly recently .. I hope its not a virus ..

First thing to do is Calm Down.

Second thing is, run your scans. Preferably in safe mode.

I would also try running spybot, and malwarebytes.

Download and run Malwarebytes free version. It's the only thing I've found that will remove the key elements of XP Antivirus 2008. I follow up with scans using Spybot S&D and AVG. They both tend to find a couple of leftovers.

.. till I clicked a link .. which kept directing me to another links .. till a pop-up window showed up telling me to install that program "XP Anti-Virus 2008" .. People. I cannot emphasize this enough, never under any circumstances click on one of these popups, anywhere on the popup, including the little red X in the top right corner. Clicking anywhere on these popups just gives them permission to install. Always Ctrl/Alt + delete and use task manager to close the popup.

Hard drives these days are SO cheap that everyone should have a large external drive for keeping backups!Sorry G didn't mean to highjack your thread. As regards external harddrives, when I bought mine a few years back it never occured to me to use it for a back up, for me it was just extra storage space for my music and photos. Not only do I back up important stuff to a couple of spare laptop harddrives I have a ghost of my XP install on a spare laptop harddrive. You were right about those Apricorn housings, the best thing since sliced bread and my WD ext harddrive still holds all my music and photos.
