I just finished a new build which works fine. I ahve a 750 gig sata hard drive on my sata 4 port. I have a backup sata drive that I want to install from my previous pc. I plugged it into sata 2 and figured it would just appear but the comp doesnt booth with it connected.

I figured maybe the backup drive needs to be on a higher sata port so I put it into sata 5 but it still didn't boot.

Do I need to do something else like set it in the bios or something? I thought it would be easier than this.

Thanks

Is the drive being detected in BIOS?

Are the cables properly seated?

The drive never had an OS. It was a second drive on the old pc as well and I just used it to store backup data so it is full. I can't recall if it was formatted or not but right now its got stuff on it.

I'll look in the BIOS.

I plugged the drive with the OS in Sata 1 and the backup in Sata 2 and that did the trick!
