Hey folks, good to be back. (or bad depending upon how you view it).

Anyway, got some spyware/malware/virus problems that seem like an especially tough nut to crack. At first, I thought it was just the Antivirus XP 2008 that I had, i went through the removal steps and I was able to regain control of my desktop, change the background back to normal and all was well. Well now, and since about Sunday, I've been dealing with browser redirections when searching. It's been sending me to sites such as

abcjmp.com
myshovel.com
cyber-defender.com
findstuff.com

and on and on. Obviously, I have a browser hijack on my hands, only I can't seem to shake it. Funny part is that when I go to run Sybot S&D, AVG AntiSpyware, AVG Antivirus, or Ad-Aware, they run fine, but will not let me update. They updated fine before this incident, So I assume they are related.

I have tried to go to certain sites for some help, such as malwarebytes.com and the online scanner at housecall.trendmicro.com, but it will not connect me to these sites, it is literally not allowing my Firefox, IE, or Safari to connect. I also downloaded PC Tools Spyware Doctor, but, of course, I can't update that one either.

So I'm stuck, I am not quite sure where to go from here, but I have tried the scans and everything in Safe Mode as well with no success. Any suggestions? HijackThis log? Help me help you help me.

Download the Malwarebytes scanner on another computer, and use a USB stick or something to transfer it, install it, and run it.

Whatever malware you have has more than likely altered your HOST file. You can rread/follow the instructions here LINK (http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/hosts.htm) to create a 'new' clean HOST file.

In fact, the way Spybot's Immunize feature works is by adding entries to the HOST file - simple but very effective.

Also, a HJT log wouldn't go amiss - just please don't do anything until someone has had a look at it.

Well I ran the malwarebytes scanner and everything seems to be back to normal. My programs are updating, Google isn't redirecting, and I don't seem to have any pesky slowdown problems.

Seems to be fixed, but if there is anything else that may need to be done, please let me know.

I'd make sure AVG is updated and you get a clean scan, and I'd also do a SuperAntiSpyware run.
