I had the same issue one day last week. It wouldn't update, even 24hrs after I first noticed it wouldn't update. I got rid of AVG and went to Avira and it works great. I called my brother a few days later and he said he hasn't had problems with AVG. I told him to try and manually update his and it work for him.
Luck of the draw, I guess. I like Avira better now.
That's a bit drastic - changing apps because the update server is clogged up for a few hours........

Have had update fail on sporadic basis for at least a week. Seems like every other day. Manual update works only sometimes. It seems to catch up withitself though so I ain't too worried.
If you really are worried, head over to the pay side of the site and download the update manually (it's free) and do an update from directory.

I forgot to mention AVG was picking up trojans and crap on my machine at the time. I wanted a full update before running a scan (to make sure it gets everything). I couldn't update, I so got Avira, updated, and scanned. Got rid of everything.

You might want to run spyware scans too (superantispyware and spybot). AV software doesn't pick up a lot of things, and it sounds like you probably have an infested computer on your hands.

I did the latest updates and now I can't even run AVG. It just won't open. I even deleted and reinstalled with same problem.
Does anyone have this problem?
