I have a wd 160g drive that I suspect may have sector problems because of the performance of the computer lately.
I am running the data lifeguard diag to test the drive (20 hrs for the extended test ) its been running now for 10 hrs, after watching it I noticed that it was acting like it would stick at a sector for a period of time, more than the normal running speed,
I think that this is indicating that it is finding bad sectors.

if this is correct, then there is no reason to continue the test, as it confirms my thoughts about the drive and just need to replace it before it gets to the no boot stage.

am I correct in my thinking ?

confession: I have never needed to run this soft ware before and I am not familiar of it its running chararistics

thank you

That's what it looks like to me. If you need to clone the thing to a new drive, you may need to run Spinrite on it first - cloning apps tend to bomb out on drives with bad sectors.

Let the diags finish though.
