I've ordered a new rig and decided NOT to use NIS 2008 or Spy Sweeper as I have on my other three machines. So, will using Comodo Firewall (free version), AVG 8.0 (free). Superantispyware Pro and Malwarebytes fill the bill.

Those all sound more than adequate for you.

I thought they should but I value the opinion of others, thanks.

You do not need the Pro version of SAS - the free version is plenty.

I also use spywareblaster and S&D, just forgot to mention them in my post. I already pay for SAS Pro for my other machines, might as well buy it for the new one. Nice thing about SAS is its a one time pay, not annually like most other apps.

A one off lifetime subscription fee? Bargain.

Yep, one time buy in. Negeva, have you had a chance to NIS 2009 beta, I've seen some very interesting readings on Norton's new program, i.e, finger print, scan speed, new detection tech.

No, not yet but I've seen some adverts for it: 'designed for speed'. Currently every busy with work but I've just finished looking at Kaspersky 2009. It's better that ever, apart from it's installer is extremely strict over 'leftover' entries from other security suites. Was forced to manually remove all entries for AVG and even the older KAV 7 before I could install it.

Did anyone else read that Symantec wanted to purchase PC Tools? Guessing them boys at Symantec have noticed that viruses are no loner the big problem and spyware is...
