Have an old Dell Dimension 2300 running XP Pro SP2 which has integrated Intel Extreme graphics. Would like to get a separate PCI card but haven't a clue what would be good. Don't want to spend a lot for this old system. Could someone more knowledgeable about video cards make some recommendations? Thanks.

I believe the eVga card that I have listed is compatible with your system. It is 46 dollars and looks to be the highest end card that is supported by your system. All the ohter cards seem to support DX8 or below and OpnGL 1 where as this card supports OpnGL 2.0 and DX9. Some one please correct me if I am wrong.
Why do you want a video card? There's no way that computer will ever be a gamer, even with a PCI card. The onboard Intel is adequate for general computing use. A PCI card may overtax the power supply.

Yeah, that Dell Dimension 2300 has a 200W power supply. Not sure I would put a video card in it with the PSU being that weak. If you really want to put in something, you probably should look into a new power supply.

I am also thinking of upgrading the video card. This 2300 has wavey lines on the display at 800 x 600. The lines get better with higher resolutions but I can tell they are there. Switched to an LCD and still same effect. Could this be a problem with> 1) Onboard video, 2) Graphics driver, 3) Or the fact that this computer only has 256 memory running XP? This is my mother in laws computer and she does not have internet so if I need to update drivers I will need to pick it up and bring it home for service. Any ideas will help. Thanks.
